Q: What is it about making music with others that reminds you of God?

A: Music is a gift from God. How can it not be when it is such a beautiful thing? My absolute favorite thing in the world is singing with others. Not performing, just singing.  It doesn’t matter if no one else is listening, creating harmony with others allows me to hear, feel, and see God’s presence.

One of my favorite quotes: “Singing in a choir is an absolutely unique experience. It is one of the most important things in the world. Where else do you have everyone doing the same thing at the same time without the use of special equipment and for a greater purpose, and no one is sitting on the bench?” – Dr. Ian Loppeky.

David has been at Grace since April 2021 as Worship and Music Director.  He grew up right here in Anoka, the youngest of 4,  graduating from Anoka High School in 2002, and Concordia College Moorhead in 2006 with a degree in Music Education.  After college David spent 4 years touring and singing with the contemporary A cappella group “Marcoux Corner.”  He then taught high school choir for 10 years, at Rochester Lourdes (2010-2014) and Mounds View (2014-2020). His history in church music has been diverse.  He grew up in the Methodist church, went to a Lutheran College, taught at a Catholic high school, and served as choir director for a United Church of Christ congregation.

David currently resides in Coon Rapids. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf (during the three months we can in Minnesota), and recording/producing his own musical arrangements.  You can hear some of his work by clicking here.
