Clock vs. Compass? | Stacy Surratt
When you think of a Clock…what comes to mind? Time, pressure, appointments, rushed, never stopping or work / school schedules…
Okay – when you think of the word Compass…what comes to mind? True North, direction, lost, going the right way, guidance, leader, navigate, exploring, safety, a pointer, going on the right path….
If you think about our lives, the clock represents our commitments, appointments, schedules, goals, and activities. It’s how we manage our time.
If you think about our lives, the compass represents our vision, values, principles, mission, direction-and our relationship with God. With that in mind – look at the words that came to mind when we thought about compass. God is our navigator, a safe path when we are lost and gives us the right direction if we will just listen.
Jesus understood the importance of balancing the clock and the compass.
We all face the challenge of trying to live by the compass, not the clock. Keeping the compass in mind helps us keep the big picture in view. I have found 3 bible verses that remind me that God has a plan, direction and purpose for my life. These verses are:
- Jeremiah 29:11
- 1 Corinthians 2:9
- Hebrews 11:1
Today, take some time to not be tied to the clock but pray and ask God for balance and direction.
Prayer for the day:
Lord, Thank you for today, help us, to use it wisely. Let our faith in you…shine ever so brightly. Bring to us today, a chance to give you glory, whether it be clear skies or ones dark and stormy. Let us use gifts so others may truly see, our trust in you is because You dwell within us! Help us to live by the compass vs the clock today and to maintain balance in our lives. Amen.
