Quilting for God and Others | Jan Margotto
When I started quilting 20 years ago, I had no idea what a blessed journey I was
beginning. I made many wonderful new friends. Some were committed
Christians who gently got me back to church after a long absence.
I also discovered I have a God-given creative streak and have designed quilted
sanctuary banners for two churches. This feels like a form of worship to me,
making up for my total inability to sing hymns well.
Jesus tells us:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul
Matthew 22:37-39 NIV
and with all your mind. …Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Not only does quilting give me a way to show my love of God, but also provides a
wonderful way to love my neighbor. Here at Grace Lutheran we have 3 groups
that produce quilts for people in need, both locally and in Rakai, Uganda. These groups are great sources of spiritual and emotional support. Fun happens, too.
As Peter says:
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others,
1 Peter 4:10 NIV
faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”
God has given all of us special gifts that He intends us to use for His glory, to serve
others and to make the world a better place.
