Tuesday, March 17. Matthew 22:15-33.
Jesus was asked two huge questions today. Why do you suppose the people asked these questions? What was the heart of their questions? Did they really want Jesus to teach them? Absolutely not! They wanted to trap him in his answers so that they could label him as a heretic and be justified in their desire to kill him.
Jesus brilliantly responded to these questions by deflecting them and getting to the heart of the question. In both cases, the questions were limited in their scope. The questioners were thinking about God in skewed terms. Jesus turned the question upside down.
We can combine these two questions, and Jesus’ responses and see that God’s kingdom isn’t about us vs. them and life vs. death. God’s Kingdom is about living life to the fullest. Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s. They’re both good and necessary. God is the God of the living, not the dead. Focus on living.
