Monday, March 2. Psalm 16:1-11.
The big story for this week is found in Matthew 20:1-16. It is the parable of the Landowner who hires workers throughout the day to work in his field. At the end of the day he pays them all the same wage.
The point of that parable is that God cares for all people. The workers were people who would go to the marketplace each day and hope to be hired. They were people who owned no land, had no rights in society, and were at the mercy of the wealthy land owners to hire them so they could earn money and have food for that day. The land owner in the parable went to the market place at the end of the day and hired workers that had been ignored and unhired. He took mercy on them and met their needs, because he was a good and generous person.
Spend some time today giving thanks to God for all that you have. If you have good things, don’t take them for granted. Don’t hoard them and act like they belong to you because you deserve them, or that they make you better than those who don’t have what you have. Remember that all things are a gift from God. Be thankful and generous today.
