As we travel The Broken Journey with Christ, our Lenten Outreach will focus on helping others with their brokenness, specifically, a lack of nourishment.
The Noisy Offerings received during Lent will support the Nutritional Farming Initiative of the Rakai Orphans Development Initiative (RODI) in Uganda, West Africa. These funds will supply farmers with seeds, tools, plants and education to provide nutritional food for their families along with an opportunity to sell surplus at local markets for income. Over 80% of Uganda’s population is dependent on agriculture. Crops grown include bananas, beans, potatoes, maize, sorghum, pineapples, tomatoes and cabbages. RODI offers programs to train people about sustainable use of the environment and land around them.
Our local impact will include collecting non-perishable food items for area food shelves. All items can be dropped off in the northwest corner of the Narthex during Lent. On Palm Sunday, we will be praying over the items collected. Here is our focus for each of the services:
March 8/9 Canned Soups, Peanut Butter
March 15/16 Tuna and Hamburger Helper
March 22/23 Cereal & Crackers
March 29/30 Spaghetti & Sauce
April 5/6 Canned Fruits & Vegetables
April 12/13 Pancake Mix & Syrup
“O God, to those who have hunger, give bread – and to us who have bread, give the hunger for justice.”
